Overview

Spokn is a text-to-speech Chrome extension that reads webpage content aloud using your device's built-in speech synthesis engine. Spokn is designed to work entirely offline and does not collect, transmit, or store any user data.

Data We Do Not Collect

Spokn does not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:

• Personal information of any kind
• Browsing history or visited URLs
• The text content of pages you read
• Usage statistics or analytics
• Crash reports or diagnostic data

Local Storage

Spokn uses chrome.storage.sync solely to save your preferences — such as your selected voice, playback speed, pitch, volume, and highlight theme. This data never leaves your device or your personal Google sync and is never accessible to us.

Network Requests

Spokn makes zero network requests. All text-to-speech processing is performed entirely on your device using your operating system's built-in speech engine (window.speechSynthesis). No text you read is ever sent to any server.

Permissions

Spokn requests the following Chrome permissions, each used only for its stated purpose:

• activeTab — to access the current tab's content for reading aloud
• scripting — to inject the content script that highlights and reads text
• contextMenus — to add the "Read selection with Spokn" right-click option
• storage — to save your preferences locally across sessions

Third Parties

Spokn does not share any data with third parties because no data is collected in the first place. Spokn has no backend, no analytics service, and no external dependencies at runtime.

Children's Privacy

Spokn does not collect any information from anyone, including children under the age of 13.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a revised date at the top.
